Action Scene Writing

Scratch's School of Summoning-Banishing the Spitfire Hound

She bounded into the air with claws outstretched. Time moved in slow motion as I waited, once again, to die today. Emma wielded her extinguisher like a club and was going to go for the monster's head again.

Just before the creature made impact, a massive bolt of lightning struck the building as a brilliant burst of light illuminated the entire arch. The monster screamed in agony as we had to shield our eyes so we wouldn’t go blind.

When the dust settled, a man had appeared in the middle of the room kneeling. He wore a cloak of blue and had a circlet of thorns adorning his head. Behind him, the monster started to get back up, shaking the dust off its hide.

Sarah cracked her whip-like tail and snarled at the newcomer.

“This is not fair!” She shrieked. “This is interfering!”

The man simply stood up, unafraid, and dusted off his cloak. “See what you made me do, creature? This was a brand-new robe.”

“Who are you?” Emma demanded. Neither one of us could comprehend what we were looking at.

The man put his finger to his lips. He had medium length, black hair, a close-shaved beard, and chestnut skin. When he smiled, all his teeth twinkled like dazzling lights. “All will be explained in a moment.”

Sarah snarled at the mysterious stranger. He turned around cooly to face her.

“Begone dark one.” He said with absolute authority.

“You may save them from me, but the horde is hungry. There will be others!” She cried in several unanimous voices.

With that, she launched herself at the two of us.

The stranger simply threw up his hand, and cracked a bolt of lightning that threw her from the arch and into the river below. The arch was done taking so much strain from today and started to groan and crumble, threatening to take us down with it.

“Now then!” The man clapped his hands gleefully as he turned to face us. “Let’s get you two out of here, shall we?”

We didn’t want to argue, considering what we just saw this man do. Also, we were pretty sure that we couldn’t get out of this building alive without help. Pieces of the ceiling started to break off as the Gateway Arch started to crumble.

The man snapped his fingers and a swirling portal of white mist appeared in front of the three of us.

“Shall we then?” He smiled warmly.

I looked at my sister, who was still clinging onto her fire extinguisher like it was her only lifeline. She nodded at me and took my hand.

The Prince of Wrath-Battle with the Reapers

My brain went on autopilot. Hearing my new name seemed to shake me into existence. I didn’t know what I was doing or how, but my body began to change. Not back into my normal, human form, but instead I began to grow. I kept growing until I must have been six feet tall.

Suddenly, I felt more powerful, as if something strong inside me and I had joined our strength.

I felt my entire head morph into a canine shape. Red hair sprouted over most of my body with a patch of white at the tip of my tail. My feet melted into paws and my hands became something in between hands and claws.

I felt much stronger. By some unknown instinct my hands went to my belt. A flash of red.

I felt something solid in my hands. Looking down, I was wielding two wicked, three-foot-long hunting knives. I had no idea where those came from, but they felt good in my hands.

Pike gasped, “A fox?”

I was acting out of pure instinct. I yelled and ran at the nearest Reaper.

It whipped its chains in my direction. They couldn’t touch me. I was weaving in and out of his irons links so fast I must have been a blur. Before it could even react, I leapt into the air and brought my knee to its face. He fell to the ground, unconscious.

We all turned towards the hooded Reaper. Rallying together we all charged. Ajax struck the creature in the knees, causing it to buckle. Pike let loose a deadly storm of steel with her blades, each returning to her hands only to be thrown again. She didn’t miss once. Felix launched two blue colored bottles at the monsters’ feet encasing its lower half in ice.

Seizing my opportunity, I flew up into the air and slashed with my blades, landing behind the Reaper.

I turned around to strike again, but all I found was a pile of ash.

The Lord of Decay-Wild Ball

At the start of the match, we all used the first moments to summon our beast-forms. My body began to grow in size as my scarlet fur and tail appeared. My hands became a combination of claws and paws. The canine features around my face became apparent as my fox-warrior began to take its form.

Lance and Ajax summoned their beast-spirits and unsheathed their weapons. The bear Warrior, Lance, wielded a massive Iron shield, while Ajax took on his wolf-spirit with his battle-axe.

Ajax yelled and ran forward and charged their front two players. The one on the left took the form of a falcon, while the one on the right took the form of a panther. The beast warriors side-stepped and brought their swords down to his back, but not before Lance was able to sprint to his aid. His shield had a unique property to it. As the enemies’ swords came crashing down onto his shield, a brilliant, golden light flashed out of the metal, temporarily blinding the players. They stumbled around, fumbling for their freshly dropped weaponry.

“Get to Tobias!” Ajax yelled at him. “I’ve got this!”

Lance ran up to defend me as I started my run towards the ball. Narcissa beat me to it and took the opportunity to gloat. Although she didn’t have her two Warriors to protect her, she didn’t need them. She was hard to take down all by herself.

“Awe, too slow again fox?” She grinned. “Too bad…”

She had summoned her beast spirit herself. It was about as terrifying as you could imagine from someone like Narcissa.

Her beast spirit took the form of a beetle. Her arms and legs were covered in insect-like armor and her hands became the claws of an insect. It was hard to look at her in her eyes, because they were made up of many different lenses that kept shifting in the light, making my own eyes hurt. She held her weapon at her side; a blood-curdling, black scythe.

She threw the ball above her head and slammed her foot against it, sending it rocketing forward. If anyone other than Pike had been our Guardian, surely, they would have missed. The ball collided with Pike’s lioness paw and slammed back against the earth. No point.

“Keep it together you, guys! Good block Pike!” Ajax encouraged. He had the falcon and panther Warriors by the scruff of their necks and brought their foreheads together, leaving them drooling in the dirt.
